Las 8 cosas que odio de dormir en hostales / 8 things that i hate sleeping in Hostels

Cuando me voy de viaje, una de las primeras cosas que miro después de comprar el billete de avión,  es el alojamiento.

Quienes me conocen saben que invertir dinero en un hotel lo considero una pérdida de dinero, ya que por 1 noche de un hotel puedo estar 3-4 en un hostel, por lo que siempre tiendo a alojarme en uno de ellos, y un hotel quizás lo dejo para una última noche, a modo de darme un «capricho».

Those who know me knows that for me, spend all the days in a hotel is a silly way to waste money. 1 night in a hotel can be 3 or 4 in a hostel. Maybe i can plan stay in a hotel if that is my last night, or that hotel is a really goood deal, give myself a capricho

Dormir en un hostel

Si bien el ahorro es importante, sobretodo en un viaje de larga duración, alojarse en un hostel tiene algunos inconvenientes con los cuales tienes que aprender a vivir, ya que lamentablemente no dependen de ti, sino del resto de huéspedes o del mismo hostel.

Sleep in a hostel

Save money is important, even more in a longterm trip, but spend night(s) in a hostel is not always perfect, in fact it has small bad thing includes which you learn to overact because most of them are not your fault, depends about the other guest and the hostel itself

Los problemas más comunes de dormir en un hostel / The most common problems staying in a hostel

1. Cama de arriba: No siempre puedes elegir cama, simplemente te dan una y listo.
   Dormir en la cama de arriba de una litera puede tener sus cosas positivas (Más fresca, algo más independiente, a veces más cerca de los ventiladores…), pero son más las negativas
   Subir y bajar la escalera todo el tiempo
   Menos espacio para tus cosas
   No tener un enchufe a mano

1. Upstair bed:
Normally you can not choose a bed, simply the hostel give you one and thats it (maybe you can ask for a downstair ones lying about you had soime knee problem),
Sleep in the top one can be good for some reasons (more fresh closer to the fan on the roof /more safety…) but honestly it has more «bad ones» like:
Going upstaris/downstair all the time
Can not use the floor for leave your stuffs
Normally have not a plug close.

2. El paseillo «Entra-Sale»:
Relacionado con lo anterior. Si te olvidas de cosas antes de irte a recorrer la ciudad, el hecho de subirte a la cama es un auténtico coñazo, pero lo es todavía más, cuando el resto de huéspedes de tu habitación están todo el día (y noche), entrando y saliendo

2. People getting in/out
Related with the last point. If you forget something before go to visit the city, can be really annoying  go upstairs to your bed every single time, but even more annoying if the other guests are the ones who are getting in and out the room the entire day (and night)

3.Usar el Baño:
No soy un tipo escrupuloso, pero si quizás algo pudoroso, y si el baño lo tenemos dentro de la habitación, ir de vientre es algo bastante incómodo ya que no quieres que el resto de personas oigan todo el concierto de sonidos que suelen salir de forma natural

Siempre puedes abrir el grifo para disimular el ruido, pero no el olor

Si por otro lado el baño está fuera de la habitación, a no ser que madrugues mucho, es casi seguro que te encontrarás con gente en la puerta esperando turno

3. To Use the bathroom
Im not an scrupulous guy but i can be quite modest. If the bathroom is inside the room i don’t like the idea that others are hearing my farts and others sounds, obviouslly i don’t like hear others sound either.

A choice is to open the sink, that way you can disguise the sounds but not the smell

4. Ruidos:
Si eres de l@s que usan el hostel únicamente para dormir entenderás que tener una habitación llena de ruidos de los otros huéspedes puede ser una auténtica tortura ya que seguro habrás madrugado ese día y sólo te apetece dormir tranquilo.

Risas de gente que no tenga sueño, pedos, ronquidos, somieres que crujen y un largo etcétera pueden hacer que tengas una muy larga y nada agradable noche

4.Noises:
if you use the hostel mostly for sleep for a good price, you will understand that stay in a noisy room can be a torture, even more if you spent the entire day visiting the city and you only want to rest

Laughs, farts, snores, and a long list can make you have a really bad night

5. Espacio:
Normalmente las habitaciones de los hostels suelen ser amplias, pero aún así, el espacio que tienes para tí, se reduce a la cama y lo que puedas meter debajo de ella (si es que puedes pillar la cama de abajo). Si hay taquillas eso es un lujo!

5. Room:
normally room hostels use to be big enough, bot «your» room is the one which you have under /over your bed and thats it! if you have lockers inside the room you can say thanks to the Lord!

6. Seguridad:
Una habitación compartida es siempre un riesgo, no sabes quienes son las otras 3,7, o 79 personas de la habitación, pero no por ello vas a desconfiar de todo el mundo, de hecho, creo que la gente que opina mal de los hostels, nunca se han alojado en uno  ni lo harán, por tanto no tienen derecho para opinar (según yo…)
En un mundo ideal los robos no existirían pero la realidad es la que es, por lo que con tener los mínimos cuidados seguro que no te pasa nada

6. Safety:

A shared room is always a risk, because you don’t know who are the rest of the people who is in your room. Obviously you can’t untrust from everyone, In fact a lot of opinions about the safety on hostels are from people who have never stayed in one of them, so i think they have no chance to opine
Thiefs are everywhere but avoid them is quite easy have a minimun care of our belongings

7. comodidad:
Si bien me he topado con hostels que nada tienen que envidiarle a un 3* o incluso superior, la tónica es que los colchones quizás no sean todo lo cómodo que queremos, que la ropa de cama no esté en sus mejores condiciones o que la limpieza no sea tan a fondo como nos gustaría.

7. comfort:
I’ve had the chance to stay in hostels which seems a 3* hotel or higher, but normally hostels are just ok to spend the night, matters is not thick enough, blankets are not news, and common areas maybe are not so clean as we could ask, but also depends how cleanaholic are you.

8.Los horarios de los check-in / check out

Cuando sueles pillar un vuelo a buen precio, normalmente tienen la contra prestación de que llegan a destino muy temprano por la mañana o muy tarde por la noche (lo mismo para con el vuelo de regreso), por lo que normalmente no puedes descansar  en tu habitación hasta medio día, o como en algún caso me he topado, hasta las 3 de la tarde.  Por suerte te permiten dejar tus cosas e irte a dar una vuelta para hacer tiempo y aprovechar el día

8.Check-in/Check out schedules

Usually when you get a nice price for a flight is because its arrival to destination is very early in the morning o very late in the night (and the same thing in your flight back), so for get into the room and rest, normally is not allowed till noon or even after lunch time. Luckly they let you leave your luggage there and walk around
